Orchitis is an inflammation of the testes that most often occurs as a complication of blood born infection originating in the epididymis. Other causes of Orchitis include gonorrhoea, trauma, surgical manipulation, and tuberculosis and mumps that occur after puberty. In most instances, both testes are involved, and often sterility results. In Orchitis, unilateral involvement does not cause sterility. Sign and symptoms of Orchitis include sudden scrotal pain with pain radiating to the inguinal canal, scrotal edema, chills, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Treatment includes bed rest, scrotal support, and ice to the area.
Causes of Orchitis
Caused by bacterial, viral, spirochetal, or parasitic organisms. Micro-organisms may reach the testes through the blood, lymphatic system, or, more commonly, by traveling through the urethra, vas deferens, and epididymitis in sexually active men. Causative organisms include Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, E. choli, Klebsiella, pseudomonas aeruginosam, staphylococcus species, and streptococcus species. A more common cause of isolated Orchitis is mumps. Orchitis develops in approximately 30% of post pubertal men with men have some testicular atrophy.
Sign and symptoms of Orchitis
Sign and symptoms of Orchitis mainly include fever; pain, which may range from mild to severe; tenderness in one or both testicles; bilateral or unilateral testicular swelling; penial discharge; blood in the semen; and leukocytosis.

Also suitable in Orchitis swelling with stinging pain is present in the upper portion of the scrotom.
Bromium – great sensitiveness with intolerance of pain neuralgia; testicles are inflamed, hard, red and drawn up with acute urinary infection; acute Orchitis, indurated testicles with severe pain and feels worse on slight jar.
Gelsemium Sem. – suitable and superior for chronic Orchitis disease, which arises from a suppressed gonorrheal discharge or from exposure to a sudden cold and on getting wet; feels much heat pain with smarting at the meatus.
Hamamelis – this is a highly suitable remedy in chronic Orchitis and inflammation; there is a dull aching pain in the testis and spermatic. Testicles enlarged, hot and painful, has spasm with exquisite soreness.
Aconite – violent Orchitis; bruised pain testicles, which feel swollen and hard; painful fugitive stitches in gland.
Phytolacca – tendency to glandular swelling with heat and inflammation; painful induction of testicles and shooting pain along with perineum to the penis.
Oxalic acid – terrible neuralgic pains in the spermatic cords; testicles feel as if crushed and heavy. Also burning in the urethra with pain in the glans when urinating due to an infection.
Belladonna – Orchitis, drawing pains in one of the testicles and spermatic cord; as if the testicles and spermatic cord, as if the testicles were drawing up in to the abdomen, with violent stitches.
Nux Vomica – chronic Orchitis with the presence of constrictive pain in the testicles; pre-eminently, a male remedy and there is itching In the urethra. Renal colic extending to the genitals with dribbling of urine caused by an infection.
Rhododendron – hard, indurated testicle, with tendency to atrophy and a sensation as if it were crushed; drawing in spermatic cord, extending to abdomen and thigh.
