Autoimmune thyroiditis, (or Chronic Autoimmune thyroiditis), is a chronic disease in which the body interprets the thyroid glands and its hormone products T3, T4 and TSH as threats, therefore producing special antibodies that target the thyroid’s cells, thereby destroying them.
Specialists separate autoimmune thyroiditis into two clinical categories.
- If goiters are present, it is understood as Hashimotos thyroiditis
- If the thyroid is atrophic, and does not present goiters, it is called atrophic thyroiditis.
It can also refer to Graves Disease
A CASE STUDY
This is a 37 year old woman diagnosed three months ago with Auto Immune Thyroiditis with swelling throat (goiter). Difficulty swallowing and wow feverish feeling constantly, with mild body ache. On detailed case taking the following individual Symptoms were found:
She can’t tolerate heat – in fact she gets sudden warm waves all over her body with perspiration followed by chilliness.
Since last month or so she feels very sleepy and wants to lie down and sleep all the time. She feels very lethargic and feels like stretching all the time. She doesn’t have the energy to work and wants to lie down, cant tolerate household work., Agg being and working in the kitchen. Needs to be in open air, cant be in closed environment . She has become very emotional and sensitive especially about what people say or do. Her husband has been diagnosed of psoriatic arthropathy . Thinking about it affects her and she gets very emotional about it.
She feels very anxious and insecure thinking about the future.
Cant tolerate warmth. Desire for sweets, aversion to spicy. Sleep is often non- refreshing. Excessive sweat on slightest exertion.
I study the case in depth and depending on the type of case – I choose the approach. The approach I chose here is one of generalization. Hence the Phatak / Boger repertory would be the best one. Often in these type of cases when generals are more prominent – I would use Phatak’s Repertory.
ON REPERTORISING Exclusively with PHATAK Repertory

I see many cases of Hypothyroidism / Hyperthyroidism in practice, and have seen that even in these cases we need to study the individual characteristic
symptoms. Depending on the type of the case we have choose the correct approach. I was reminded of the need for flexibility and broadening my vision.
