The Endeavour College of Natural Health (ECNH) is the largest provider of education in natural health in the Southern Hemisphere, with 6 campuses in 5 States of Australia, and thousands of students studying not only homeopathy but naturopathy, herbal medicine, nutrition, musculoskeletal therapy, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, remedial therapy, reflexology, aroma therapy, a range of short courses. Courses range from simple general interest through to degree level.
ECNH has submitted a new Bachelor of Health Science (Homeopathy) degree to the Office of Higher Education for accreditation, and hopes to have the first intake of students in 2010. Presently students are enrolled in one of two Advanced Diploma of Homeopathy courses offered by ECNH, or completing the teachout phase of an old degree previously offered by ECNH.
New owners took over the College in 2007, and expressed a strong interest in developing homeopathic studies. In 2008 ECNH acquired two Australian homeopathic colleges; the Australasian College of Hahnemannian Homeopathy (ACHH), and the Sydney College of Homeopathy (SCHM), as well as the Bay of Plenty College in New Zealand.
ECNH believes that homoeopathy has a strong growth potential in Australia as the community becomes increasingly aware of what the discipline has to offer, and has literally put up the investment to match their aspiration. Their interest extends internationally, and discussions are underway to develop educational opportunities in Europe.
In 2008, Dr Isaac Golden took over as Head of the School of Holistic Medicine at ECNH with responsibility for all of the therapeutic modalities. Isaac was the first person to earn a PhD from a mainstream Australian University in a homeopathic topic. He is a world authority on homoeoprophylaxis, is a well known teacher and founder of the ACHH in 1990, and is widely published. He assumed an acting head of department role. In 2009 Alastair Gray took over as Program Leader of homeopathy at ECNH. Alastair is one of Australia’s best known and widely published practitioners and teachers, and has lectured internationally. Isaac and Alastair lead a dedicated team of permanent staff, who are supported by very experienced sessional teachers.
The ECNH homeopathy core philosophy is that students must learn the fundamentals of homeopathic philosophy and practice before extending their philosophical studies and clinical training to newer developments. We see the Law of Similars as being central to all homeopathic studies, and the principle against which new ideas and developments must be measured. We believe that homeopathy is not an intellectual pursuit, but a practical discipline which uses unchanging Law upon which to base treatment. We are not reluctant to expose senior students to new ideas, but do not hesitate to critically examine whether these ideas adhere to the Law of Similars. We do not believe that progress within homeopathy ceased with Hahnemann’s passing, but we believe that the fundamental principles of homeopathy espoused by Hahnemann are as true today as they were 200 years ago.
The ECNH feels privileged to be invited to host an edition of Homeopathy for Everyone – a journal driven by passionate homeopaths who love their subject and who devote considerable time as well as expertise to promote homeopathy internationally. We hope you will enjoy the following articles, interviews and discussions.
