One particular area for excellence at the Centre for Homeopathic Education (CHE) is their low cost clinics, which can be found at each of the schools. All Homoeopathic students must attend the student clinic as part of the criteria of the course, whether on the Full or Part time Licentiate or Degree programme.
Like its counterparts in London and Budapest CHE NYC brings high quality, low cost homeopathy to the public, via its unique, integrative clinical training model.
Denise Straiges, Head of Clinical Affairs at CHE NYC, says “Acquiring clinical experience—and certification hours—can be one of the greatest challenges of homeopathic education. Upon completion of their foundation education, it is not unusual for students and new practitioners to struggle to integrate their didactic and philosophical training into the complex realm of clinical practice. Consequently, too many graduates of high-quality homeopathic educational programs never go on to become active practitioners.”
It was with this issue in mind that CHE NYC developed and implements a fully integrated clinical training model designed to address the full landscape of clinical education and practice. The program includes: case taking / observation, in-depth case analysis with comparative Materia Medica and posology, peer review and mentorship, as well as practitioner development, practice management, strategic business planning and research/practice auditing.
CHE NYC’s unique, multi-dimensional model begins in the second year as the didactic training evolves from its emphasis on acute care and therapeutics into the realm of chronic cases. The first step is the “Observation Clinic” in which an experienced clinician demonstrates case-taking techniques along with in-depth, step-by-step case evaluation, remedy differentiation, and selection. Although the Observation Clinic is designed for second-year students, it is open to (and widely attended by) advanced students seeking deeper skill development. Clients seen in the Observation Clinic come for one initial consultation and one follow-up. After that, the client moves into the supervision practice of a fourth-year student, thus forming the crucial first step in practice building. In addition, that fourth-year case manager “mentors” a second-year student in the long-term case management and begins the road toward becoming a supervisor.
The CHE NYC Advanced Clinic is a student-led model for third and fourth-year students. Cases are taken by student practitioners with an experienced clinician guiding the case evaluation, remedy differentiation, and potency selection. The supportive, collaborative environment encourages students into independence as proficiency milestones are reached.
Advanced students are also involved in a supervised pilot project to audit their individual and clinic cases. In this way, each student will have the opportunity to apply research theory to clinical practice.
CHE NYC’s state-of-the art facility includes two modern clinic rooms and a closed-circuit TV system, thus allowing student practitioners to experience a true clinical setting as the faculty supervisor and students observe from the next room. This arrangement creates a comfortable environment for both practitioner and student and facilitates valuable, real-time feedback.
In 2015, CHE plans to expand its clinical model to include stand-alone clinic days, led by a variety of high-level clinicians. These clinics will be open to students, graduates and professionals interested in refining skills, and receiving hours towards certification. It will also serve as an opportunity to bring challenging cases for review and discussion. These specialty clinics will focus on areas such as autism, children’s cases, teens, and addiction / recovery.
All these clinics whether in London, Budapest or New York, do more than just serve the student population—they also make available a high level of homeopathic care in each city at a very reasonable price. As demand for clinics expands, so will the clinical training opportunities at CHE. It’s a win-win situation!
The Centre for Homeopathic Education (CHE) has schools in London, New York and Budapest. Its principal and founder is Marcus Fernandez RSHom who has taught homeopathy for 20 years within the NHS, for charitable organisations and also in private practice.

We were motivated by what we felt was a lack of a complete homeopathic training course, and wanted to establish a college that offered its students an in-depth understanding of both Classical and Practical modern approaches to homeopathy.
I feel that the provision of a combined Licentiate and BSc (Hons) in Homeopathy programme has created a benchmark for homeopathic education in the UK. By offering a homeopathic training at a higher education level we can produce graduates who not only thrive in practice but will be equipped to lead their profession. Homeopathy now stands alongside all the other major complementary therapies – osteopathy, acupuncture and herbal medicine – in offering degree programmes.
