Toby’s Hip Dysplasia

milleman feb

Dr. Jacques Millemann treats a male Chow-chow for bilateral hip dysplasia.

Mister Hermann K… from Ludweiler ( Sarre) has a black male Chow-chow with pedigree, born on 29/8/1988 and  he brings him to me on 10/04/1989 because the dog has a bilateral hip dysplasia, diagnosed by X-rays..

Anamnesis

He limps badly when he plays for some time. When rising in the morning he limps even more. His inferior incisive arch is irregular (fluorism). He is fond of eating fruit (kiwi, apples …).

He is a very quiet and lovely dog even as a chow-chow. He is gentle with everybody. He still doesn’t  raise a paw to pee. He is really obedient, snores when asleep and feels better when he’s got some occupation.

Treatment

The prescription was done without repertorisation, by considering this mildness and  obedience, which I have really seldom met in Chow-chows.  Also, I find laxity of the joints and the irregular line of his incisors.

First of all he receives an osteopathic session, followed by 3 granules Calcarea fluorica 5 CH three times a day for 6 days.  After waiting 48 hours he receives a dose of Pulsatilla 15 CH.

Follow-up

16/5/1989  Toby feels much better but has still some difficulties when rising. He walks well again with the fore-paws and lies again with the hind-paws stretched backwards, as he did when a pup. He still doesn’t raise a paw when peeing, but does invite his masters for a play. Now he sits on his arse and offers the leg to get a bit  of swiss cheese. He comes spontaneously to lick my hands.

consultation  on 1/8/1989 :  His general condition is greatly improved. There is still some laxity of the ligaments.  The rear angulations are completely straight (a common state in chowchows), but the dog is very lively and doesn’t limp any more. Prescription : Calcarea fluorica 5 CH , 3 times a day for 8 days.

On 10/10/1989  Toby is quite well. His trot is fluent and now the hocks show a fine angulation.

Remarks :

1)   I would  have liked to see a radiograph of the hips to confirm the result better than with a clinical observation and an osteopathic diagnosis.

2)   The prescription of Calcarea fluorica was strictly organotropic to cure the  ligament’s laxity, which was an indicator of the fluoric diathesis.

3)   The prescription of Pulsatilla  as Toby’s Simillimum can be justified with a repertorisation
